About The Artwork

Toy safe, globe bank, call bell, watch dials, plaster washers, test clamps, bobbins, air hose connectors, tiny funnels, casino chip, toy slot machine, international coins, and paper money. Benjamin Sterling III is a graduate of the Wharton school and Harvard Business School. He is currently a Vice President at the World Bank, specializing in currency exchange. He loves to gamble, especially when it’s not his own money he’s gambling with! In the summer he ditches his bespoke suit for khakis, a blue striped Vineyard Vines oxford and a Menemsha Blues baseball cap, and relaxes at his ‘summer camp’ in Chilmark. He plays in the weekly Sunday softball games at Flanders Field and gets into heated debates with Alan Dershowitz on the porch of the Chilmark General Store. While some may be turned off by his brash style (“It’s not bragging if it’s true”), deep down he is a kind and generous soul, making numerous anonymous donations to many Island charities.

David Joseph is an artist, physician, engineer and inventor who lives on Martha’s Vineyard and in Naples, Florida. As an artist, David’s primary media are found object art and photography. An avid international traveler, he has visited over 120 countries on all seven continents, all 50 states, and over 250 UNESCO world heritage sites, each destination an opportunity to photograph nature, wildlife, and portraits. Unable to travel during Covid, David saw the potential to create art from the mundanity around him. He began to create found object sculptures made of old or used common household items, toys, and sports equipment. Each whimsical, thought-provoking piece displays the balanced composition of a trained artist and the skilled construction of an engineer.
