About The Artwork

Born to be Bad Hand Embroidered Rhea Egg This one of a kind piece is a hand drilled Rhea egg shell embroidered with the anarchic slogan "Born to be Bad", nestling in a hand made miniature silver barbed-wire birds nest. Comes complete with glass display dome and hand turned wooden base in which to exhibit this exquisite one off piece. Edition 1/1, 2015 Organic Rhea egg shell, stranded embroidery floss & silver jewelry wire. Approximately 20 x 18cm Phil takes inspiration from his visual universe; a mix of street art and pop culture imagery; to create eternally original pieces that convey breathtaking individuality. He turns everyday items into extraordinary objets d'art designed to become future heirlooms, and creates one off pieces, as well as bespoke commissions for a discerning international clientele.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

My work aims to revitalize cross stitch, proving its viability as a modern day graphic medium. In an attempt to achieve this I fuse this traditional hand stitching technique with imagery from my visual universe, a mix of street art and pop culture. I am particularly inspired by image reproduction techniques, be it in photography or a printing process, attempting to see if, and how, it can be recreated in cross stitch. To accurately render and mimic the original technique that inspired its conception demands a high level of precision, some pieces taking up to a year of hand stitching to complete. It is exactly this dedication to precision, acquired over a decade of working in couture fashion, which drives my evolution of this craft into the realm of fine art.
