*This is a made to order piece and it will be shipped in 8-12 weeks. WONDER THINGS “Wonder Things” is an ongoing collection of unique illuminated pieces. The collection’s aim is to impact the viewer’s emotional state through introspection. We intended to engage the viewer in self-reflection in order to connect them to the present moment. Experimenting with shape and light reflecting on surfaces helped us enhance the effect. Each piece is made in gypsum, using layering techniques resulting in unpredictable and unique finishes. The inspiration for the collection came from traditional Japanese approach to life. BOSEI The Bosei title translates to “motherhood” in Japanese. While sculpting, we looked for a correlation between protection and comfort; where the the front side of the object symbolises protection and the the back comfort. The piece is created in a way which look and feel distinct from both sides, provoking a different emotional response and represents these opposing qualities. The cutouts in the lamp are positioned to reveal golden orange tones inside, crating a sense of comfort and calm. The challenge was to create a large object while keeping it light and strong enough to be able to hang on a standard ceiling. The form was initially created using steel mesh. Later, it was covered with fibreglass and layered with multi-toned gypsum.

Studio AOAO is an interdisciplinary studio combining art and design. It was created by Alicja Strzyzynska and Onur Iseri in Amsterdam in 2020. “We specialise in making sculptural pieces by experimenting with the functionality of sculpture and the meaning of furniture. In our works, we focus on the emotional connection between the object and the user. All of our work seeks the experience of intimacy and the metaphysical bond between personal interaction and meaningful narrative. Through sculptural value and reflective design, we aim to create pieces that last for generations and help reduce environmental waste.” The inspiration to sculpt came from Alicja’s roots, her grandfather – an artist sculptor. The studio’s first collection debuted at Rossana Orlandi Gallery during Milan Design Week 2021. The studio currently collaborates with RO Gallery and Galerie Philia.
