Roy (AKA Robert) Pekoc (pronounced pee- co) is a resident of Cleveland, Ohio. He began painting found objects in 2004. The majority of these objects are metal or plastic parts found on the roadways that have fallen off cars, trucks, and buses. These parts have lain on the road for months and are in various states of decay (corrosion). Many of the objects have been beaten, broken and flattened by the pounding of the constant stream of civilization as it continues on its way. After the "canvas" is found the following procedure takes place: 1) It is washed and dried 2) Coated with a clear coat that prevents oxidation 3) Designs are applied with brushes using water based paint 4) A final clear coat is applied Roy's precisely painted patterns contrast with the distressed nature and irregularity of the objects themselves. The pieces usually have a three dimensional or sculptural quality to them so that, although much of the work is wall hung, they do not lay flat. In some cases the location of the find is noted and written on the back of the object and sometimes used as the title of the piece. All pieces are numbered. This number reflects the month and year it was finished and the sequence in which the piece was painted for that year.
