Yukako was born in Hokkaido, Japan, and has lived and worked in London since 1993. Yukako has a MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art. She has exhibited in numerous solo shows and group shows in the UK, Canada, Germany and Japan. Her work is in many public and private collections worldwide, including Doris Lockhart Saatchi, The Tim Sayer Collection (bequeathed to Hepworth, Wakefield), Crédit Agricole Corporate & Investment Bank, Braintree District Council, Poplar HARCA, and the Royal College of Art Collection. My work is a hybrid of sculpture, painting and installation. I explore the subliminal colours of both the natural and man-made world and question the complex interplay of light, atmosphere and the way in which we perceive these things. Finding beauty in all things mundane interests me, and it is these moments of reverie that are embodied in the work. Artist Statement: Colour is integral to my work. Some of my painted surfaces are deliberately hidden so that what is visible is their reflection. The reflected colours in my work are understated, and quiet and reveal themselves slowly. The placement and viewing points of my work are important considerations. The environment in which the artwork is located feeds into the creative process. I view my artwork and the environment it is placed within as a whole. My intention is to offer a moment of clarity and serenity to the spectator. Creating is a form of meditation for me; I enjoy slow evolution as the work comes into being.
