About The Artwork

"I wanted a camera. A camera with lenses that you can change, like the YouTube stars have, but I could not afford one, so I made myself this: A Canon 70 D camera with two lenses that you can swap out." View the review here: https://youtu.be/CFcqioXmXmI View the making of here: https://youtu.be/mtlUkTxZo4Q Unobtainable series In his series “Unobtainable” the sculptor explores objects that the average person does not have access to. Most of these objects are too expensive for a normal person to just buy, such as the Canon 70D camera or the Toshiba laptop. Others like the AK47 are unobtainable as it is not legal to purchase or own in South Africa. Each of these items can be classified as luxury items, objects that people aspire to own. It is therefore no accident that the choice of medium for these sculptures are found objects and offcut plywood. A medium that is readily available to every person. Thus, by making the object of desire out of everyday objects the sculptor makes it obtainable to everybody. In their appearance the sculptures have a deeper meaning. They are made to the exact dimensions of the original object. They also have the same motions and movement as the original objects. Thereby the sculptor seeks to capture the essence or the power of the original. Similar to the cargo-cults of Papua New Guinea these objects become more powerful when they are more accurate to the original. Canon 70D The canon 70 D has several features that gives it more power. It has a strong trigger that allow the user to feel the power of images taken. It is powered by two 38 special bullets to deliver the maximum amount of power. The selfie screen is taken from a woman's vanity case allowing you to view yourself. The eye piece is an ambidextrous swimming goggles eye piece that can be turned for right or left eye. There are many dials and buttons on the back, but since no-one know what they do you can ignore them. It has a hotshot attachment on the top and a tripod mount on the bottom. It also comes with a wifi key build in. It has a 3/4 BM void-gazer sensor to capture the image and a secure lens attachment ring that fit both lenses. Lenses The canon 70D ships with two lenses, an 18-55 kit lens and a 18-135 stabilized lens. The kit lens has the old chain containment rings as well as the manual adjustment ring. The stabilized lens has the plastic containment rings with the automatic spirit level adjustment unit build it.
