Carreras Tenor - Sculpted textile BirdJ Sculpture

Jose Carreras is one the three famous tenor that I have enjoyed listening to through out my life. Carreras the sculpted bird is a colourful character and his big beak and wing span have an expressive visual of an Opera singer. I hope that you can feel the music coming from the bird, though there is no sound, maybe the tactile and visual expression will make you feel like singing. Making these sculptures gave me the opportunity to be resourceful with my materials. I have beautiful textured papers that I found would work well with the sewing machine and colourful thread. Each feather like piece has a wire in it and then inserted into the paper mache base. Birds are my thing, I love birds and it is a natural form that takes place in my art. The sound and movements of these creatures are what inspires me. The sculptures have and expressive style but some may see it as folk art.
