Colin Poole "Venus" Sculpture

Born in 1964 in Northern Virginia, Poole identified himself as an artist from about the time he could hold a brush - or in his case, a handful of clay. His grandmother, “my hero, Una Hanbury,” was an internationally known sculptor who studied in France and England with the most distinguished teachers of the day. She lived and worked in Washington before she fell in love with New Mexico in the 1960s. Among Poole’s earliest and most distinctive memories are “working in a corner of my grandmother’s studio. I feel I grew up there, naturally absorbing the process of making art. It is such a joy that I now live, paint, and sculpt in what was her Santa Fe studio and home, using some of her tools and feeling her spirit here.”
