Text of Martin Chirino Today I welcome Juan Luis Estévez, artist and friend who feels the same passion shared by many of the contemporary artists who today strive to find an ideal solution for sculpture of all time. In Juan Luis Estévez, a sculptor, there is a careful respect for the historical past and a determined desire to recover general culture, trying to rescue the primitive significance of sculptural art to transmit in the execution of his work a certain abstract constructivism and sometimes it approaches the surreal world, in addition to industrial connotations that evoke the world of machines. Without defining a desire, I believe that the artist in the effort to integrate the apparent dualities to which I refer in this text (constructivism and surrealism) strives to find solutions to the apparent concerns that appear in all the work of the sculptor that he is, and he approaches with humility the greatness of the matter, with great respect for it, feeling it, admiring it and respecting it, aware that the limits of creation are exceeded through daily work until finding personal solutions and thus achieving the definition of his career as sculptor. He throws himself into the arms of the complication of matter and its procedures to seek the light not only on his intentions and results during the process but also on the conditions in which the daily reality of his artistic expression unfolds. There is in the sculptor a conscious will to place himself in what undoubtedly constitutes the common trajectory of the most incisive creators of our time, that is, less is more, a concept that seeks the principles on which contemporaryity is based today . This exhibition brings together the most outstanding work of Juan Luis Estévez's recent years and is presented as an opportunity that will bring us closer to understanding the artist's research on the use of iron as well as reflections on the possible uses that this material offers, Hard mineral for the artistic practice of contemporary sculpture, and which is also a passion for Estévez, a feeling that makes him persevere without fear between waiting and hope.
