I am for an art that makes sense of our lives and our experiences. That uses the ocean of objects that have invaded our lives. I act behind the scenes of this world and look for the surprising. Sometimes it is ordered, architectural and controlled, other times it is falling into chaos and ruin. This is the balancing act and includes the anxieties, rhythms and curious nature of humanity. And even though we know these items are present. I want them to combine into another state. And always seem that their history is indeterminate. And then you look further and you can see the obsessive, fastidious detailing. The frenzy and speed of the work. That draws your eye quickly in all directions. Then you pull away and a sense of slow art pervades, that demands nothing of you and rests comfortably in the world. Some of the artists who have influenced my work are Tom Friedman, Tim Hawkinson, Philip Guston, Lee Bontecou, Edward Keinholz, Arman, and Jean Dubuffet. I predominantly use a hotmelt gluegun to create my detailed structures and surfaces. This allows me to build complex and seemingly impossible structures. I also sometimes combine these with found or purchased items that suggest a form to be made.
