About The Artwork
From the series of on-going works about obesity, 'Deep-seated Anxiety' is a soft sculpture focusing on the female centric area of the body which aims to unite the interior and exterior of the scrutinised fat female body. 'Deep-seated Anxiety' is inspired by the concept of the skin becoming a phantasm for the body it left behind following dramatic weight-loss, coded as both 'new' and 'old' the flayed skin is subject to further surgeries to reconcile the container with the contained. More and more seams/scars are created to create a tighter and tense sheath and further stitches added that allude to the cosmetic surgeon's target area marks for liposuction.
