“Xi” in its singular form means happiness, when doubled, it represents love. The legend of the symbol dates back to the Tang dynasty. As the story goes, a village girl’s love saves the life of a young student and helps him become a minister of the Imperial court. At their wedding, they both wrote the character for happiness on a piece of paper as a way to commemorate their love, giving birth to the double happiness character that we know today. This legendary symbol is a reminder of the magic and hope that love brings us, regardless of what form it takes.
