About The Artwork

I made this piece the other day in a studio and home I’m leaving soon, deep within the vacant heart of the Sierra Nevada. This pendant evokes the pangs of loss coupled with the hope for a new future. In the art of glassblowing, sometimes it’s better to throw a molten piece of glass into cold water and watch it explode in a million pieces…than try to repair something that cannot be fixed. On the other hand, broken hearts can be repaired by the warmth of the flame- renewed by patience and warmth. So with love, as with art. This piece was born from effort, trial and error and a fair amount of luck. A kaleidoscope of colors, its most vibrant hues will emerge in natural daylight. By night, the colors become muted, subtle and contemplative. Heart replicating life, it has a a dual nature and can be worn on either side. I hope that the individual who finds this heart feels the tremendous love and depth of feeling that I felt while assisting in its creation. This piece has great meaning for me, and I hope that it brings the joy of new love and fresh beginnings to its owner.

Nicole Seaton is a flameworker who divides her time between Northern Nevada, California and Hawaii. Raised on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe, Seaton gained an early appreciation for hours lost in creation during Tahoe's snowy winters. She graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, earning a dual major in Spanish and International Relations. Seaton studied abroad in Argentina and the Basque country, and she speaks Basque and Spanish. While she never took an art class in college, her artistic career began at the tender age of seven, when she discovered the bead store. Her astute grandmother realized that the inquisitive child was content for hours with a few beads and a ball of twine. After two decades of jewelry-making, Seaton decided to learn how to make her own beads. Today, Seaton ships her glass to every corner of the globe. JavaFlame Glass is currently shown in galleries throughout Northern Nevada and California. Although jewelry is her preferred medium, Seaton also makes small glass sculptures and digital art with closeups of her glass pieces. Seaton was a Burning Man artist for two decades, and feels that the event has been an intrinsic part of shaping her art and worldview.
