About The Artwork

Kreamer pudding mold, oil spout, oil can, spice tins, spools of thread, noisemaker, chopsticks, doll eyes, costume jewelry, vegetable strainer leaves. Ellie is truly multicultural, having French-West African, American, Indian, and Thai ancestors. Her great-grandfather was Babar, the King of the West African Country Le pays des Éléphant, and she grew up in Celesteville, close to the border with Rhinoland. When war broke out between Le pays des Éléphant and Rhinoland, her family moved to the safety of Springfield Massachusetts, staying with her cousins, and she and her cousin Horton became best friends (which they remain to this day). Reliable sources report that it was, in fact, Ellie that first heard a Who. Inseparable, Ellie and Horton moved from Massachusetts to New York City to attend Columbia, and Horton introduced Ellie to her more distant cousin, Aloysius Snuffleupagus, who lived close to the Columbia campus, and the three became known as the “Three Elephanteers”. Soon another distant cousin came to visit from London, and JK Heffalump was soon incorporated into their close-knit herd, and they became known as the “The Pachy-Pack”. The Pachy-Pack began to visit Martha’s Vineyard quite frequently, and an appearance in the Edgartown July 4th parade became an annual event for them, after which they would go to Backdoor Donuts for a few dozen apple fritters, and they usually also enjoyed checking out the art at The Old Sculpin Gallery, and often would play a round or two at The Royal and Ancient Chappaquiddick Links. Rumor has it that the Pachy-Pack are all currently looking for a summer home on Martha’s Vineyard…

David Joseph is an artist, physician, engineer and inventor who lives on Martha’s Vineyard and in Naples, Florida. As an artist, David’s primary media are found object art and photography. An avid international traveler, he has visited over 120 countries on all seven continents, all 50 states, and over 250 UNESCO world heritage sites, each destination an opportunity to photograph nature, wildlife, and portraits. Unable to travel during Covid, David saw the potential to create art from the mundanity around him. He began to create found object sculptures made of old or used common household items, toys, and sports equipment. Each whimsical, thought-provoking piece displays the balanced composition of a trained artist and the skilled construction of an engineer.
