Sculpture: Stone on Stone.
I started out with a 65lbs of semi translucent alabaster.
There was no real shape for me to extract an idea from this hunk of stone. Sometimes as I start carving, ideas begin to form in my mind and the muses take over. Well for weeks I stared at this “stone” and nothing was happening. Suddenly, one day, after hours of studying the stone from different angles I decide to place it on its smallest tip. Voila-Transformation was to begin!
As I began removing the bulk of the stone I felt compelled to ad flowing movement to the sculpture. As a result, I began to create delicate lines and flowing sweeps with very thin areas to catch the light.
Angel-like qualities of the transparent nature of the stone and the “swirling dance that the form began to take, overcame my feelings and it built, almost as a crescendo in a musical masterpiece, to such a height, I rushed to complete and put the final touches to my new creation. From that 65lbs hunk of translucent alabaster, I birthed “Ethereality”.
This sculpture recently was awarded First Place in the Spring Art Show 2018 of the Art Council of Southwest Florida
