About The Artwork

Eurythenes Plasticus is a small crustacean living in the abyss at 6900m depth. It is in the Mariana Trench, one of the deepest places in the world, that we found this new species of amphipod, contaminated before its discovery by polyethylene terephthalate, a polymer which makes up in particular the bottles of 'water.

Graduated from isdaT - Toulouse Institute of Fine Arts , Nathalie Charrié lives and works in Toulouse. Her work as a ceramic artist finds its source in the contemplation of the animal and vegetal world. From entomology to medieval bestiaries, from engraving to etymology, those inspirations feed her creation. She creates hybrid species born from hypothetical crosses of nature with our human behavior: Armies of insects, Sisyphus-beetle, extremophiles organisms and bird-plants... This search for meaning is linked to the search for shape. Self-taught in ceramics, she makes experimentation the driving force of her creation. The common thread of her work lies in the meticulous development of a piece which is then subjected to violent firing. This constant search for contrasts has led her to mix other materials to ceramics: wood, copper, iron but also insects and other organic materials... Recently, in collaboration with a glassmaker, she produced a set of sculptures mixing ceramic and thermoformed glass. So many experiments that make her work evolve into a meeting of meaning, materials and forms: a hybridization.
