So what is it that I as a sculptor am trying to achieve? As I stated earlier I love finding the life force in a pose which I am able to translate to tangible form. It is my way of articulating my fascination with the figure. Watching human events and movement in daily life inspires my creative urges. This is the basic urge for an artist since the artist requires inspiration to relate his interactions with the world. It is visual and sensorial and very real since all artists have to translate thoughts into an artistic representation. Sculpture utilizes the viewers’ tactile and visual senses and synthesizes them to help the viewer establish a relationship with the sculpture. It is these senses which allow the viewer to appreciate and understand the sculpture including its dimensional space. This aspect is unique to sculpture and is the only fine art that has this property of real space built into its fabric. How do our senses guide our psychological aspects in coming in contact with sculptures? Multiple senses may be aroused depending on our past and present circumstances in life. The visual senses may excite our tactile senses. Our senses become the ignition for analytic or emotional responses. These responses are often prompted by our personal needs, fears or wants. Many times our favorite sculpture represents our sense of idealism and for others it takes on our real nature. This sense of who we are presents itself in the moments we are in front of the sculpture and make our decision about what context the sculpture refers to our own existence.
