Tim Royall is a sculptor based in Nelson, South Island, New Zealand. He specialises in stone carving, using stone sourced locally and from overseas. Tim migrated to New Zealand from the UK in 2002. He originally trained as a furniture designer and worked in the furniture and yacht design industries since 1991. On arriving in New Zealand, he sought to reignite his passion for making things and began to teach himself stone carving. Through trial and error, consistent work and the occasional guidance of others he has begun to attain recognition in New Zealand as an emerging talent, winning in 2009 the Premier award of the New Zealand Contemporary Stone Awards biennial competition.
