''Flower'' Sculpture

My work focuses mainly on studying nature and bringing it's sculpturally into ceramics using the potter's wheel as a starting point for experiment, reflecting not only on the vegetal, mineral or marine nature but also the human condition. The intention of this series is to create a bridge that emphasises the relationship between the modern life and our identity as humans rooted in nature. Each piece has been made using materials of the highest quality selected for their toughness and resilience such as porcelain and stoneware. After the piece has been created in white clay is then fired at 1250 degrees celsius which hardens the clay transforming it into ceramics. The colour is applied using spraying ,dipping and painting techniques. At this point a second firing is done at a slightly lower temperature(around 1050 degrees celsius) which enhances and deepens the colours bringing out their true aspect. A third and final firing is then made for the glaze to set which is applied by spray or brush over the fired underglaze colours. The glaze will not only protect the colours but will offer the piece a shiny jewel like look. Each firing lasts between 20 to 30 hours which will make the piece complete. As an artist dependant on the power of the fire I never know what to expect when I open the kiln's door. It is always a great feeling when I find that my pieces have stood the test of fire and the aspect of all structure, colour and glaze are of satisfaction. This are only a few aspects of what makes this pieces unique and exciting to look at.
