Born in Brooklyn & raised in Richmond Hill Queens, New York, I've been writing poetry & creating art since a young age. My mediums include ink, pencil, wood, acrylic paint on black canvas and polymer clay. My interest in sculpting came about in the mid 1990’s when I moved to Colorado. I began making masks because we all put on so many faces in society that I decided to express it in various forms. My work has reached people all around the world and my goal is to never stop expanding. For me, art is redemption for the way the world is. My ideas come in fragments from archetypal images of cultures un-named. Each one is created by blending up to 15 colors & textures. The first few masks were made of soft clay, but I noticed people wanted to hold them or touch them. I then transitioned to a hard-baking clay, where they emerge from the oven with an expression that speaks of all they have endured. Those who have purchased my sculptures say each one has its own story to tell; for every mask there is a soul to whom it will speak. I then explored other mediums in pencil, ink & acrylic paint. My paintings seek to create settings and abstracts with colors, both intense & muted, playing a large part in creating these places, as does the black canvas, which I use exclusively. Currently, I am working on a book of poetry in which a work of art is paired with a poem that tells a story. Even though they were “born” years apart…you get the feeling they were “conceived” together. Some of these poems include works that were recognized by "The Emily Dickinson Award" (3rd place), "The Poetry Press Award" (5th place), three "Editor's Choice Awards", Paul Harvey's recording for "The Sound Of Poetry" and publication in numerous magazines and anthologies. Though I never know what I’ll be working on next, as any artist will tell you…we don’t choose what we do, it chooses us.
