About The Artwork
Similar to my previous body of work, I utilize the unique, inherent qualities of wood to capture a spontaneous moment in time. In this series, I incorporate Indonesian boat slats as an unexpected offering of color and a punctuation of lively, abstract energy. The viewer is invited on a journey; one where the eye will be guided by lyrical slopes, rolling valleys and tantalizing textures, before landing in a cove of color. Perhaps an origin, or maybe an end. As an encapsulation of life’s forces, these frames present a formal opportunity for viewing and reflection.

Betty McGeehan, from New Providence, NJ, is a self-taught artist. She has been the recipient of numerous awards including NJ State Council on the Arts Fellowship 2003, and three Dodge Foundation Fellowships. Solo exhibitions have been presented at the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts, Wilmington, DE and many college and university galleries. Her work has been represented in Grounds for Sculpture, Hamilton, NJ; Zimmerli Art Museum, NJ; Visual Arts Center of NJ; Noyes Museum of Arts, NJ; Sculptors Guild, NY, NY; and the National Sculpture Society, NY, NY. In 2010, McGeehan’s work was in two movies. Her sculpture has been reviewed in the New York Times and the Philadelphia Inquirer.
