ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Geometric forms and manipulated lines blending and working to generate a mood and character. Color, tone, rhythm and pattern are used to delineate static areas and to express a resonant vitality. Although the shape of the structure demanded precision, the color areas were random developments. The wire suspended over the surface of the construction offered an interest and perspective. The wire did not originally have a specific purpose nor did I think six wires were better than any other quantity. The removed areas would visually lighten the piece and reveal an internal depth. This piece became what it is rather than something it was conceived to be. It had a life of its own. Can this be a stringed instrument? Could the hole augment acoustic properties? I think this work cries out for its unmistakable title - Guitar. Artwork is intended to be unframed. Painted surface continues around the edges and terminates cleanly on the back. Back surface is fully prepared and treated with acrylic gesso. Wired for wall hanging. Hardware and wire gauge chosen for excess strength based on manufacturer's specifications.

Randall Yoshida is a graphic design professional in Los Angeles, California. From the earliest art studies to entering the commercial art field and onward as design firm partner, Yoshida has been fascinated with color symbolism and three-dimensional cues in art and design. His abstract geometrical wall sculptures explore the use of linear extensions and dimensional components within distinctive color environments. Exploring the creative arts separate from design activities, Yoshida believes he continues to be directed by purpose. It is the point of view that has been transformed.
