Hive Mapping is a series of large drawings that seek to represent organic growth. They were created in response to the hypothesis that bee colony collapse is caused by the uniformity of hive manufacture that increases the risk of disease. I began the drawings with the paper scrolled so that only a few inches were visible at a time. I added hexagon upon hexagon freely and did not see the finish drawing until I completed and unrolled the final hive shape. The drawings were later translated into CAD and laser cut out of birch, as seen here. They are limited to an edition of 25, however may be commissioned larger or cut out of another material such as steel.
