Human-Size LEGO Money Tile (Sculpture) - Edition 22 of 100 Sculpture

EDITION 22 of 100 Have you ever wanted to hold a LEGO® Money Tile in your hand the same way a LEGO minifigure does? No? Well, don't worry, because we have; and then we made one! Height 156mm / Lenght 312mm / Depth 25mm Perfect as a standalone sculpture, or add a bracket (not included) and hang it from the wall. BACKGROUND... After playing around with the iconography found in LEGO - and having the LEGO money appear as a recurring theme (what’s more pop art than the repetition of money!) - we thought “why should minifigures have all the fun?”; we wanted to hold the tiles in our hand just as the minifigure does. So, equipped with a ruler, a calculator and a good dose of imagination we set about to calculate the necessary dimensions to hold a tile in a human hand the same way a minifigure does in theirs. After a lot of number crunching, measuring and measuring again, and a desire to keep the proportions a round number for simplicity, we came to the conclusion that the model had to be a 20x scale-up of the original tile, making it: 316mm x 156mm. Now to get building... Each tile is made from solid model board which is machine cut to the exact dimensions, then hand-sanded to ensure a smooth and even finish, and then the colour is added - which is hand-mixed by eye to be as close to the original tile as possible... we've become pretty good at this now! The tiles are then sent to an industrial printers who print directly onto the tile (direct to substrate), giving a flush finish to the piece. Each piece is hand-numbered and signed, and a LEGO piece is attached to the back (there had to be a real piece of LEGO on there somewhere).
