This piece began as an architectural design change in a building under construction that required steel to be taken out of the structure for a bigger garage door opening. My brother owns the garage door company that was putting in the new door. He was watching the steel workers pile up some 3"sq. steel beam near the dumpster. He asked them if they were tossing it, they said yes, he said thank you! He had me in mind and look what happened! The piece grew on its own. Instead of orienting the bends in regards to the flats of the square, they are oriented from the corners. I thought that might make it attractive to the eye. The steel is flame colored using an Oxy-Propane torch. Hopefully the photo brings that out. The colors jump out at you in good lighting such as LED or sunlight. It's sealed with 3 coats of gloss urethane. As for the name, that came about a month after it was finished. My wife and I were having one of our many watered down martinis in the studio listening to WXPN out of Philly and I think "Japanese Breakfast" is a band. Anywho, when we heard that name we both knew that was what the piece was going to be called.
