About The Artwork

Jnana-2020 Jnana is a series of drawings, drawn using a single line. Jnana is a Kannada word meaning knowledge. This word in Kannada has just two letters but, the meaning of jnana is vast and infinite. Knowledge doesn't have its own drawing, shape, borders and has no limits. And it cannot ever have. Not just this knowledge doesn't have a single definition or description either. Because knowledge is like water, it always flows and transforms. Water takes the shape of the container it is in, likewise knowledge takes its own structure for every other person. Not just about one or two things, we have our own meaning and explanation through our experiences. So the knowledge of a person can't be measured by his knowing or unknowingness about one particular thing. Everyone is wise and fool in their own way. So it is better not to consider knowledge based on one thing. Everyone can not know about everything, but each and everyone know about one or the other thing. Based on this philosophy the infinite knowledge has taken the form of one line one life kind of drawings. This drawing series is a kind of sculpture in the form of book. This has 3 volumes. First and second volumes have 240 pages each and the third volume has 264 pages. So this sculpture of drawing series in the form of books has a total 744 pages. These drawings have been drawn in the month of January 2020, 24 drawings for each 31 days. These drawings have been drawn over A4 size sheets if paper using black ink gel pen. One line one life! This is a drawing series. The drawings in this series start with a single line and end in same line. Life is also as simple as a line, it starts from birth and ends in death. And the single line between these two is life. But the same line of life takes turns, faces ups and downs and while it gets its own meaning, and becomes different than others. Likewise the drawings in this series though have one single line, each of them give a unique and special meaning through the turns they take. That is why this series is named as "one line one life". Life may be just one, but each day is a wonderful gift for us. Everyday each one of us get 24 hours and the way we use these 24 hours decides the achievement, destiny and fulfilment of our life. With the same thought the artist had made a decision to drawn 24 drawings symbolising 24 hours on 1st of January 2019. And this series is a fruit of it. These drawings are the results of trying to draw all the thoughts, confusions, questions, incidents, scenes and experiences that the artist has went through that particular day, on an A4 size sheet of paper using a black gel pen. Even though every drawing in this series are drawn with a single line, each one of them give their own unique meaning and experience. Every drawing has the line coming out of from inside of the artistic soul of the artist.
