1955 born in Paderborn, Germany 1974-76 travelled through Italy, Yugoslavia, Greece and Israel 1976-84 studied painting, graphic design and sculpture in Michigan, USA; Kassel, Germany; and Edinburgh, Scotland Lives and works in Kassel, Germany Teaching in Germany and England Claudia Blume's works are represented in international collections. Compared to woodcuts by artists such as Dürer, Hukusai or the Brücke artists, Claudia Blume's woodcuts, which she has been working on for many years, are largely contour-free areas of colour, i.e. anything but woodcut-like. In her woodcut art she uses the white line cut, while her colleagues use the so-called black line woodcut. Blume's woodcuts are therefore not the negative forms of a printing block, but direct positive prints. Her expansive woodcuts have transformed the technique of painting into the woodcut. The impressive works of the Kassel artist have been shown in numerous galleries and museums - as German Woodcuts in America and Great Britain and in Germany in the only woodcut museum, the Spendhaus in Reutlingen, as well as in several galleries. The woodcut is Blume's medium in which, so to speak, "the world happens". In addition, Claudia Blume also works with her sculptures as woodcuts that extend into space.
