Kuker, also called Chaushi, Starci, Surati, or Jamalari, are a carnival masquerade in Southeast Europe.Mummers dance in the streets to scare away evil spirits and drive away the cold, and for fertility and health they perform ritual (symbolic) actions such as plowing, sowing and others. The mummers disguise themselves and start chasing evil spirits. Mummer's games and customs are performed only by men, mainly bachelors. Includes a series of recurring plots and characters (grandparents, king, tax collector), represented by men in distinctive leather masks and costumes with bells and wooden phalluses.
