A coal merchant is an immigrant living in Paris, from the Massif Central and specifically of Aubrac, the Viadène, the Monts du Cantal, the Planèze and Lot Valley. After practicing water carrier occupation (for bathing) in the 19's, immigrants from these highlands will gradually move in the timber trade and coal (home delivery) and in taverns (wine, lemonade). This conversion was done under the Second Empire, when the water system of the capital began to serve the floors of buildings.
