ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This piece belongs to the exhibition that the author dedicated to the theme of loss and emptiness. "Life goes on" represents the pain and absence felt in the heart when something or someone is lost. It is a tribute to women who have suffered from breast cancer and who have had to undergo the removal of the mammary glands as the only solution. The author wants to show his admiration and solidarity with them, and remember that life continues in spite of everything. This work gives origin to the series of sculptures bearing the same name and, in addition, was the first with which the author experiences working only with cardboard instead of using structures made with plastic containers. In fact, it is completely hollow, except for the head, which has a plastic bottle inside.

Roberto Bear is a self-taught visual artist, who since childhood showed talent for drawing and painting. Although he is still considered as an emerging artist, his passion for sculpture began almost a decade ago; area of the plastic arts in which he has decided to focus primarily. His technique is probably unique, since no one like him has yet known how to take advantage of every plastic packaging that comes into his hands, shaping complex structures that are then covered with a personally processed paste made from paper or cardboard. The result is always surprising: robust sculptures with human forms that at the touch and sight seem more sculpted in stone or quarry. His technique has been the result of a learning process that he has perfected over the years; always having the recycling of plastic, paper and cardboard as his objective. The female figure is so far the favorite subject on which he has based most of his work, which takes advantage of masterly to address sensitive issues such as breast cancer, diabetic foot and violence against women. Currently, he continues developing sculptural projects with which he aims to raise awareness of the importance of recycling.
