This paint textile references wabi-sabi, the belief in the beauty of imperfection, impermanence, and the incomplete. Open sections combine with the unravelled to throw shadows along the wall providing a contrast to the densely woven. Highly unusual and made entirely from paint this work provides an fascinating take on contemporary painting. My art practice revolves around the desire to free the paint from the canvas, providing it with a life of its own. The work is secured to a wooden framework. It is fitted with D rings and wire for immediate hanging. On the front, you will find my initials. On the back is my signature, title and, year. This painting is registered with the NRAA (National Registry for Australian Artists). Details of this registration are provided as well as a Certificate of Authenticity. THE INTERWEAVE COLLECTION ”Weaving connections through unsupported paint.” Paintings that emulate the stunning drape of textiles. This series combines my love of craft with my passion for painting. Warp and weft threads are cut from a variety of works that exist only to be deconstructed and then reconstructed as a new whole. Finished works are made entirely from paint with no other material present.

Artist Statement “When the paint is dry my work is just beginning”. The thought that paint could be capable of independence from the canvas has been the driving force behind Julee’s art practice. It led to her process of creating paintings on plastic waiting for the paint to dry before she removes it. The unsupported material has an inherent flexibility that allows Julee to investigate her interest in textile, collage, and sculptural techniques. Through cutting, layering, moulding, weaving, and gluing, each creation is the result of many hours of meticulous and detailed work. An artist since childhood, Julee holds a BFA (Sculpture and Painting) from Curtin University, Perth. She is also the author of the book Sculptural Secrets for Mosaic (Schiffer Publishing Ltd, USA). Her works can be found in collections, both public and private, worldwide.
