This is part of a series where I've been experimenting with two basic forms- The circle and the sphere. I've been creating art most of my life, but have only been pursuing it as a career for 17 years. I gave up my 'day job' 15years ago and am now on the high-wire doing a little dance 1400 feet in the air. . . safety nets are for those who think they will fall. While I envision most of my sculpture in monumental scale, I do create smaller pieces that are for sale although I secretly call most of them maquettes (models). Each of my sculptures are ONE-OF-A-KIND and while I can create a commission similar to a past piece, I will never duplicate anything. My Saatchi profile indicates 'Seattle' as my location but I recently moved to a 7,000 sf (720 sq. meter) building which lies exactly between Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon (Centralia, WA) Most of my work is sculptural and created from Stainless Steel, Aluminum, & Bronze, but I love working with stone and glass whenever I get the opportunity. While much of my work is perfect for outdoor display, many pieces can fit into an interior space. Even so, my goal is to work in monumentally-scaled (30' to 60') public pieces. I love nature and well as urban spaces. A long day of working in the yard is very Zen-like and replenishes my soul. My gardens currently occupy about 1 1/2 acres of my 4 acre property and seem to grow larger every season (how does that keep happening?). While a day in nature heals my soul, spending an hour, or day or a week surround by the bustle of a city can nearly have me exploding with creative energy. My favorite cities are (in no particular order): San Francisco Portland Tacoma Vancouver, BC Paris Rome Venice Istambul Marakesh and Timbuktu Now... Timbuktu isn't exactly a bustling metropolis (population 13,000), but how many times does one get to include it in a list of places they love? I could go on (and on and on and on), just ask anyone who knows me, but since no one could POSSIBLY still be reading this, I'm only writing for my own perverse pleasures. --James Kelsey http://www.jameskelseystudios.com (primary online presence and portfolio) https://www.facebook.com/JamesKelseySculpture (an ongoing 'blog' of sorts which keeps up with my comings and goings around my studio, career and life.
