Artist Statement After years of working in the medical field, I decided to focus on my love and passion for ceramic art. Sculpturing in clay provides me a space to express all of the emotions and thoughts that accompany my life experiences. Each sculpture is one of a kind because it represents a unique feeling, thought or life moment. In my artwork, I like to integrate human figure elements into imaginative, somewhat childish characters. From sketch to completion, my affection for the character develops into a real connection. I sculpt from within, letting the moment lead my way. When I feel that this whimsical figure is whole and alive, then I know I can let it go. Just as sculpturing provide me a safe zone of expression, the finished piece invites my viewers to connect with their feelings and let their imaginations complete their own stories. About my technique: My sculptures are made of earthenware. The clay body is bisque fired to cone 04. I finish my sculptures using underglazes which are low-fired multiple times. Usually, I add layers of glaze and overglaze. I like to integrate other materials for some of my sculptures such as metal wires, wood or fabric. ARTIST BIO Born in Rome, Italy and growing up in a rural village in Israel, Eliane was raised in a family of physicians. In 2007 she received her B.Sc Nutrition in nutrition science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, School of Nutritional Sciences. Eliane worked with oncology patients in hospitals for several years as a clinical trial study coordinator. Even though she was very science/medical-oriented in her career, she also discovered a great need to express herself in a more creative way. Eliane started creating art sometime in 2004 at the age of 24, sewing dolls, making handmade crafts, sculpting in Papier-mâché, drawing and painting. In 2008 she was first introduced to clay and hasn’t stopped sculpting since. She studied ceramics in a private studio in Tel Aviv Israel. After years of working in the medical field, Eliane decided to focus on her love and passion for ceramics. In 2012, Eliane and her husband moved to the USA. She has been working out of her studio in Sunnyvale, CA and lives happily with her husband and daughter along with her newest child, a baby boy.
