About The Artwork

A poetic creation in the tradition of Objet Trouvé and Dada. Fishing at dawn, the mist slowly vanishing... and then suddenly you see the sun rise in the water: To evoke this fairy-like moment and atmosphere, Anne used an antique piece of chestnut wood and painted it with gesso and gold paint, only using the natural veins and patterns of the wood. She combined the thus emerged misty drawing with a hundred year old ironing stand, a bold fishing lead and a fishing line, creating in the end a poetic suggestion of time and place. Measures of the wooden panel: H 26 x W 41,5 x D 5 cm (H 41 ¾” x W 16 5/16” x D 2”), the fishing lead hangs about 92 cm low. Materials: antique reused chestnut wood, antique ironing stand, fishing lead, fishing line, paint, hardware. The work comes signed at the back and with the year of making.

Sculptors Cosé Manzano (Spain) and Anne Klein H. (the Netherlands) live and work in the South West of Spain. Both work in metal sculpture and installations. They established the KleinManzano art-collective in 2013 and their works can be found in collections in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the Unites States. Artist's Statements: Cosé Manzano: 'Direct metal sculpting like hammering, cutting and welding is my preferred technique. My raw material is metal bar or metal sheet which I intuitively shape, bend and hammer into figurative sculpture. But I can also be captured by a found object or synthetic material. I find inspiration in animals and the land that surrounds us, and also in architecture and contemporary art. In my current work I focus on skin ‘transported’ to metal, and on metrical shapes I see in nature. Although we don’t literally work together on the same art works, working together as KleinManzano reinforces my direction, inner sense and reference in art.' Anne Klein H.: 'I make sculpture in various techniques: metal sheet and mixed media assemblage, using wood, glass, ceramics, metal and leather, often with found or re-used pieces. My work can have a symbolic or surrealist tendency. I get inspiration from social and personal issues (like women and society, or living in a foreign country), but also materials inspire me, as do nature and architecture. To me KleinManzano is a very motivating way of finding reference and structure, stand together and get deeper into art.'
