This piece is inspired by my past career as a molecular biologist. It is what I imagine large molecules important to life would look like if I could climb inside them. As always, my principal aim is producing beautiful objects, which viewers would want to visit again and again. I would like this pie...

I’m a mid-career artist who makes abstract sculpture. I’ve been practicing studio art since the 1960s. I was strongly influenced by early exposure to Modernist sculptors including Henry Moore, Alexander Calder, Isamu Noguchi, and George Rickey. In parallel with my studio practice I maintained a professional career, first as a medical scientist investigating human blood cells, then as a research and development engineer creating devices to treat cardiac arrhythmias, coronary artery disease, and aortic aneurysm. I retired from that career path a few years ago to devote all my time to sculpture. My work is informed by the advanced technology industry of Silicon Valley (where I was employed), and molecular biology and biomedicine. My sculpture deconstructs technology and the world of living cells and molecules.
