Through my current exploration of the tetrahedron, cube, and sphere, I have stumbled upon a unique form, which I refer to as N.214. This sculpture emerged from a playful investigation of these geometric solids. By creating plaster piece molds, I was able to produce wax copies of these shapes and subsequently explore the dynamic relationships between them. From this exploration, N.214 was born, featuring two symmetry lines and four tetrahedrons extending outward, imparting a sense of tension and separation. My intention is to offer viewers a novel and intriguing experience. The title, N.214, serves to avoid confining the sculpture to a specific interpretation, thereby inviting a personal connection from each observer. For me, the negative space at the center evokes the image of slightly parted lips or the vulva, inviting the viewer to engage with the piece. The patina's subdued redness is deliberate, symbolizing weariness, scars, and a yearning for intimacy. I have been immersed in the world of fine arts foundry work for the past 18 years, continuing the legacy of my father, a figurative sculptor who founded our foundry. Under his mentorship, I gained comprehensive knowledge and skills while working on his bronze monuments, assisting local artists with their bronze sculptures, and developing my own artistic voice. Clay, plaster, wax, bronze, and patinas are the media with which I am most adept. This style presents a significant challenge for me. Rather than replicating nature or my surroundings, I seek to convey feelings and personal experiences through a deeply personal and introspective process. By understanding, empathizing, and internalizing these emotions, I create something that is distinctly mine. This personal expression, with its inherent vulnerability, is what makes this work particularly challenging and rewarding.
