About The Artwork

Nicodean Apparatus 2 is part of my Geometric Apparatus series that are designed to test our notions of beauty in complex geometric forms. The twisting shapes of the wood become incomprehensible using euclidean notation so this device is designed to provide an antipositivist, abstract knowledge of how these geometries affect us emotionally. It is a wooden armature that supports 12 fully operational and tunable guitar type strings. Each string is attached at one end to its own tuning peg and at the other to an array of brass arms. Through a gear mechanism the array can be twisted to affect the tuning of the strings by small movements and vibrations in the two rib structures.
