About The Artwork

This "Octopus" is carved from birch plywood. It can be commissioned to order. Please note it will be approx 2 - 3 months for delivery (depending on work load). This octopus sculpture, hand carved from birch plywood, shows how beautiful plywood sculptures can be if the the right subject is chosen and the material is handled in the correct way. It captures the essence of an octopus as it glides over and away from the plinth it is mounted on. The sculpture shown here has been sold, but it can be commissioned. The price will depend on a variety of factors including the size of the carving along with the style and material of the plinth, etc. Please feel free to contact us to discuss a commission. Inspiration: “When I used to work with dolphins, I was also charged with looking after the aquarium section in which we had some large tanks containing local fish species. One of the most popular residents was a curled octopus. Absolutely fascinating; I would spend hours watching this amazing cephalopod stalking and attacking crabs and was mesmerised by the way it would move”.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I live and work in Kent, in the UK and have been a full time sculptor for over 20 years. My first career was working with animals, and this still has a large impact on my life and work. I spend quite a lot of time carefully selecting the medium for my sculptures that will best produce the effect I want to achieve. Maybe this is by the use of the figuring in the grain of a unique piece of timber, or perhaps by utilising the striking effect achieved with the contemporary medium of plywood. Sometimes the smooth effect of bronze is the best way to portray an idea. I am self-taught, although I have spent much time talking with and exchanging information with carvers and artists from all over the world. My works are also produced in limited edition bronze and silver. I am a professional member of the Society of Wildlife Artists (part of the Federation of British Artists).
