Octopus, 2018, Bronze, last cast of the limited edition of 8.

Octopus has a complex nervous system, excellent sight, and is most intelligent and behaviourally diverse of all invertebrates. It inhabits vide range of the ocean regions, from costal coral reefs to abyssal depths. The extent of its intelligence and learning capability is not yet well defined. In laboratory experiments, octopuses can be trained to distinguish between different shapes and patterns. They have been reported to practise observational learning and playing - by repeatedly bouncing toys against a current in their aquariums. Octopus inspired artists across centuries. It appears in mythology as sea monsters like the Kraken of Norway, the Akkorokamui of the Ainu, the Gorgon of ancient Greece or inJapanese erotic art, shunga.

The patina is little different than on the pictures. please contact me for more details. @andrewsculpture

My sculpture is founded in hyperrealism in human and animal forms which I then blend with varying degrees of expressive interpretation. Careful study and deep analysis of the anatomy of every subject I sculpt enables me to recreate the subtlest tensions of musculature and movement, and to articulate my vision with high levels of accuracy. This deep understanding of physical characteristics gives me the ability to manipulate and create something new, rather than recreate the reality. In doing so, I strive for my sculptures have an emotional impact on the viewer, to call to mind memories or tell stories, as if each has its own spirit that is emerging from within.
