Ludymila Louise took her first steps in the world of art as a student of industrial design at the Belas Artes Faculty in São Paulo. A native of Poços de Caldas in Minas Gerais state, her journey led to an attraction for unconventional materials like rubber, concrete and horse mane. Ludymila sees abstract form as a composite of meaning, concept and sensibility. In her atelier she creates uncommon forms and aesthetic behaviors, veritable sculptures that blend harmoniously with environments and human bodies. Ludymila’s initial entry into the art market occurred in 2015, at the gallery of Thomas Cohn, known for launching the careers of Brazilian artists in the 1980s, such as Adriana Varejão and Leonilson. Ludymila took part in the II Bienal of Contemporary Latin-American Jewelry at the exposition ‘Aquello que Abraza” (“That Which Embraces”) in Buenos Aires, which enjoyed a second edition at the Galeria Virgilio in São Paulo. The exhibits had already been displayed at the New Gallery and the Central Galeria, both in São Paulo. In pieces used for interior decoration, Ludymila works primarily with polymers, researching varied forms. After it is cast and handcrafted, the material gains movement and volume, and confers light, shadow and depth to the compositions. When installed, the pieces evoke sensory contact. A tactile invitation, the particular effect of the sculptural arts that deal with spatiality. A unique creation that begins with each piece and merges with the environment.
