An original hand-cast glass sculpture formed from 200-year old reclaimed glass, stained red, green and teal from bronze, copper, chrome, and pre-stained crushed glass.

This work recalls my earlier days as a young monk, swathed in heavy cassock and shawl as a defence from the cold: I am bleary eyed, it's too early in the day, too cold in the unheated choir. This almost featureless form is full of unspoken histories, silent pasts... and a powerful presence. In this work, the bronze and oxide staining is cool, the copper staining promising a future warmth.

The glass is recycled, rescued from an 18th century walled garden greenhouse. A single pane has been cut, layered, and lightly dusted with copper and bronze, and rendered stonelike with a scattering of the shattered fragments of earlier works. In firing, it's been lightly devitrified, creating white borders and highlights.

It stands on a simple wooden block or plinth, provided with the work.
