PLAYTHINGS : RABBIT Sculpture

Sculptures from the PLAYTHINGS series are abstract interpretations of wooden toy animals and each is created entirely from one of the finest horse leather sourced in Southern France, and tanned in the United States. Each plaything sculpture is painstakingly cut, stacked, compressed, and dyed entirely by the artist's hands, without the use of machinery or die molds. A combination of design and leatherworking techniques allow natural twists and movement in the sculptures which subtly break the illusion that they are wooden toys. The PLAYTHINGS sculptures which are an impression of their layers, celebrate the beauty of animal forms but also speak to the cost of play and our relationship with the natural world. Animal bodies are both the subject and victim of our admiration. _______
