A single cell begins as a flat plane which can fold and transform into an infinite variety of three dimensional shapes. As an artist who creates both 2D and 3D artworks I find the life of a cell fascinating and wanted to created a work that sought to create as many three dimensional folds as I could from hand cut hexagonal rounds.

Tonya Hart studied at York University in Toronto and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts, Visual Arts degree in 1998. Her artwork draws inspiration from nature, science and light with a focus on portraying magnetism. Nature and magnetism have manifest in a vast array of articulations in her artwork and continues to facilitate the conceptual nature of her work. Notable exhibitions include solo exhibitions at the Venice Biennale of Architecture (2018); Canadian Sculpture Centre (2009) and Paul Petro Special Projects Space (2010); and group shows with 4heads arts group in NYC for Portal Art Fair (2017) in SoHo and Governor’s Island Art Fair (2017) and with Saatchi for Brooklyn art fairs in fall 2018 and spring 2019. In 2011, Tonya entered the public art realm with INFRA commissioned by the city of Toronto for Scotiabank Nuit Blanche, becoming the first of three exhibitions for Nuit Blanche. She has since worked with cities across Canada including three commissions with the National Capital Commission in Ottawa, Canada to create public art installations.
