The wood sculpture has been naturally stained enriching the natural colour of the London Plane wood. A final layer of premium wax is added and lightly buffed to reveal a textured wood grain with an overall rich dark brown sheen. The form is composed using traditional wood jointing methods, ladder like forms are created through a relationship of two unrelated parallel branches. The branches find commonality, and fragility is lost and replaced by a tensile figurative movement. Signed and stamped on leg. Unique Piece

The aesthetic of Simon's work is purely derived from material selection and the instinctive desire to make a concept tangible. Through exploring texture, colour and the processes to which each specific material responds the most appropriate elements are chosen and their relationships begin. This is key to his creative process. Simon finds particular inspiration in surfaces or a body of material which instantly captures his imagination. Often he marries old with new. Found materials such as plastics and metal hold a sense of curious energy; while a heavily weathered dropped tree branch can influence a sculptural form. Items that are sea eroded or sun bleached may even dictate the direction of an entire piece and an already present patination has only to be preserved. The objective isn’t to salvage but to capture and share what he sees as interesting and precious. To his constantly evolving body of work Simon applies his broad knowledge of tradition craft and hand-making combined with industrial processes to create lasting artworks. Sheeran habitually observes the materials and nuances of 19th & 20th Century art and modern design which compliments his minimalist approach to forms and narratives. Simon Sheeran (b. 1980) is a London based Irish born artist. He developed a keen interest in fine art and sculpture from a young age. He grew up in the suburbs of Dublin and began his creative calling studying Fine Art at NCAD (National College of Art and Design, Ireland). By 2001 he’d moved to the United Kingdom to continue his studies in Architectural Modelmaking at the Arts Institute at Bournemouth followed by a degree in Product and Furniture Design at Ravensbourne University, London. For over 15 years he’s designed and manufactured contemporary and traditional furniture, lighting and decorative objets for the luxury interior design Industry. To date Simon creates all his own original artworks as limited editions and one off pieces at his private workshop in Wimbledon, London.
