This collection is a showcase of the first (in-house recipe) clay series from Late June. These recipes are based around traditional Parian Porcelain. A self glazing clay body with a pearl-like sheen, inspired originally by marble native to the Greek Island of Paros. - The flexuous forms are softened by a smooth shell that has been vitrified, and transformed by a dormant eruption of Volcanic Parian Porcelain beneath. This reactive process means that the outer surface can vary from rolling contours to large extruded bubbles. - As with all projects by Late June, inspiration comes from the history and future of ceramics itself. From how the material was first used to aid settlement and ‘civilisation’ as we know it, to its important role as a thermal material in the space industry. This project came around when looking into images of unusual mountains and volcanoes on distant moons. Images taken during the Apollo Missions, the Spirit/Curiosity Rovers on Mars, and by the Hershel Space Observatory. Missions past and present, which have all relied on technical ceramic materials.
