Penny Farthing Bike Sculpture

My piece began with an old, dusty, wooden wheel, covered with the multiple layers of paint. I found it in a small antique store. When I held this wheel for the first time, I was struck with the idea for creating this remembrance of the past, it was fun to follow through and give it life. There is something powerful about riding a bicycle because it creates a sense of independent mobility and control of where you go and explore. Although this piece is unable to be used for its original purpose, the “Penny Farthing Bike” piece fits ideals of being social, uplifting, self-inspiring and culturally-relevant. I encourage you to enjoy simplicity of the Penny Farthing Bike that became reality through the contrasting details and unique textures of its design.
