In Celtic mythology the quintessence of the universe was female. This feminine world view made the ancient Celtic women independent and sexually emancipated. The artist Birgitte Evelyn has created her versions of her “Pocket Woman” and named them after Celtic goddesses. Cliona means “Shapely”. This attractive bronze woman is moulded out of body-heated green wax by the artist’s loving fingertips; everything is done by hand, without the use of any tools. When the shape is found a plaster cast is filled with liquid bronze, and when patinated the raw figurine is polished and burnished. Sense of touch: You may follow the artist’s work by running your finger along the smooth curves, lingering on the figurine’s mystic grooves. It fits in a pocket, and when you hold it in your hand you can actually feel her nestle close to your fingers.
