Welded steel sculpture of a female figure, capturing the moment just after she dives backwards from a ledge. The entire sculpture is made entirely from punched steel disks individually hand punched and meticulously hand welded together by the artist himself to the correct forms and proportions. The sculpture has parts of form missing, this is to juxtapose the fragmentary to finished product which in effect will allow the viewer to engage with the sculpture and put the missing pieces together in their own mind to complete the forms of the sculpture. The sculpture is supported from a fabricated steel base which has been treated with a patina to promote the natural rich brown oxide colours, which is lifted by aluminium which has been expertly polished to a lustre finish. The sculpture has the option of being supported from a ceiling of an atrium without the base at no extra cost.

Starting out as a trained blacksmith metalworker and now full-time sculptor, James began his artistic journey at a young age, creating sculpture from surplus materials from large ornamental ironwork projects. Following various trips to Paris - and witnessing artworks by masters such as Rodin, Michelangelo, Bernini, Claudel and Bugatti - he became hooked on the idea of creating striking figurative sculpture with a contemporary flair, using both traditional and unorthodox media. Choosing to forego formal art training, James enjoys the challenge of understanding complex anatomy and translating it into dynamic and thought provoking works in a subject that has been, and is still is, revered in the world of sculpture. The ethereal style of his work aims to showcase the fragility of the human body and mind in modern society. James continues to work at his home studio in Kingsbridge (Devon) sculpting and casting new works with steel being a preferred medium, appealing to collectors internationally.
