ABOUT THE ARTWORK

"Portrait of Child No.4," created in 2008, is a striking porcelain sculpture by Dionisio Cimarelli that intricately merges the elegance of classical form with contemporary artistic expression. This work stands as a testament to Cimarelli's mastery of the medium and his innovative approach to traditional techniques. Inspiration The inspiration for "Portrait of Child No.4" comes from Cimarelli's deep appreciation for the innocence and purity of childhood. Influenced by classical sculpture and traditional Chinese porcelain artistry, this piece reflects a harmonious blend of cultural elements and timeless beauty. The use of porcelain highlights the fragility and delicacy associated with childhood, while the intricate patterns and inscriptions add layers of meaning and cultural significance. Viewer Experience Cimarelli hopes that viewers will feel a sense of wonder and introspection when engaging with "Portrait of Child No.4." The serene expression of the child, coupled with the detailed surface decorations, invites viewers to reflect on the themes of identity, cultural heritage, and the universal experience of childhood. The gold inscriptions on the porcelain surface add an element of mystery and invite closer examination, encouraging viewers to contemplate the stories and symbols embedded within the artwork. Medium and Style Porcelain was chosen for its historical significance and its ability to convey both strength and delicacy. The material's smooth, glossy finish enhances the visual appeal of the sculpture, while the gold inscriptions and floral patterns provide a rich, textural contrast. The combination of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design elements makes this piece a standout work in Cimarelli's oeuvre. Exhibition History This sculpture has been exhibited in a personal exhibition at the Italian Embassy in Beijing during the 2008 Olympics, showcasing its international appeal and significance. .
