Centerpiece is series of sculptural vases with a combination of two traditional Dutch crafts. A combination of fragmented Delfts Blue vases with beautifully hand crafted wicker braiding. Filling in the missing parts of the fragmented vase by elegantly combining the two materials which are visible by contrast. Fragmented Delft Blue vases and Rotan were chosen for their long history in the Dutch trade. During my research of Rotan I came to the discovery that the Netherlands has a very long history with wicker and basketry. Nowadays there is little respect left for this particular craftsmanship. Today basketry is used for everyday products and I wanted to give this craft and material the respect that it deserves, an homage. Bringing two traditional crafts together, basketry and Delft Blue into one contemporary object.
